When boosting, there are some things you can do to give off clues as to wether it is your boosting partner or not - such as say jumping 5 times and then running around in a circle, or whatever the two of you make up to ensure it is your boosting partner that you paired up with. This was done purposely to make you rely on in-game clues/movement of your partner, to interpret on your own. Nor is there even a name tag above the other player.
